Here it is. The Iberian derby, the blockbuster clash the whole world has been waiting for.

The odds spell out the market’s verdict clearly: Portugal 4.00, Spain 1.88, draw 3.40. The market is firmly on Spain’s side. But this is a derby — two elite teams colliding — and the numbers on paper rarely tell the whole story. Let’s look at both sides first.

Bruno Fernandes is a superb creator, but the ball currently seems to funnel more through Vitinha’s feet. And out wide, the much-hyped Bernardo Silva has so far posed less of a threat than Rafael Leão’s direct, pace-driven damage down the left. In short, Portugal’s stars all carry big names, but the on-pitch chemistry simply isn’t clicking.

Spain: Yamal Back to Warp the Defense, Cucurella and Baena Slicing Down the Left

Most of the attention will land on Lamine Yamal. Yamal has just returned from injury, and his dribbling attempts last time out looked sharp — no goal, but he drew a mountain of defensive attention and opened up more scoring chances for the likes of Mikel Oyarzabal.

Add in Marc Cucurella and Álex Baena, both excellent at both ends last match, and their partnership down the left completely tore Austria’s defense apart. In pure attacking terms, Spain look to hold the upper hand.

Defensively, Spain haven’t conceded a single goal so far. Their opponents may not have been elite, but a clean record like that still speaks to how strong they are at the back.

Key Battle: The Gap in Wing Firepower and Chemistry

Combining squad and odds, Spain are the stronger side on both counts. Portugal’s stars are no less talented on paper, but the chemistry hasn’t arrived, whereas Spain have already built a working understanding down the left — and that is the decisive gap in this derby.
